Volleyball Bounces Back From Slow Start To Top Dowling, 3-1
UB Now 9-0 In ECC Play And 14-2 Overall
Oakdale, N.Y.-After a slow start in the first set which the visiting University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team lost, 17-25, to the host Dowling College Golden Lions on Tuesday night, UB rebounded to take the next three sets, 25-16, 28-26, 25-19, to post a 3-1 East Coast Conference road win on Long Island. The victory keeps UB unbeaten in the ECC at 9-0, and the Purple Knights move to 14-2 overall. Dowling is now 12-8 overall and 6-3 in conference play.
Junior Sarah Rosa (Itajuba, Brazil) led the UB offense at Dowling crushing a season-high 21 kills with a .421 attack percentage (21 k-5 e-38 ta). Rosa also added eight digs, three service aces and three blocks.
Biljana Savic (Grad. Student, Novi Sad, Serbia) notched a double-double for the winners with 12 kills and 27 assists. Classmate Giovana Soares (Sao Paulo, Brazil) also chipped in 20 assists for the Purple Knights.
Senior Amanda Kunrath (Ivoti, Brazil) had a solid match on both sides of the net with nine kills and five blocks (one solo).
Larissa Oliveira (Sr., Belo Horizonte, Brazil) contributed seven kills for UB on Tuesday.
On defense, senior Ying Shen (Nanjing, China) led the Purple Knights with 13 digs, and junior Martina Santia (Sezze, Italy) added nine digs on the night.
The UB women's volleyball team returns to Hubbell Gym for the next match which will take place on Friday, October 17 at 7:00 p.m., when Bridgeport hosts Daemen College in East Coast Conference action.
