Strong Offensive Night Helps Volleyball To Ninth Straight Win With Sweep At Mercy
UB Now 12-1 Overall And 7-0 In Conference Action
Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.-With its offense hitting on all cylinders, the University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team cruised to its ninth straight win with a 3-0 (25-15, 25-13, 25-20) East Coast Conference road win over the host Mercy College Mavericks on Thursday night. UB is now 12-1 overall and 7-0 in the ECC. Mercy falls to 3-12 overall and is 0-6 in conference action. In Thursday's win, the Purple Knights hit .429 as a team with 46 kills on 84 total attacks with 10 errors.
Junior Sarah Rosa (Itajuba, Brazil) led the Bridgeport offense with 11 kills, and she chipped in two blocks.
Sophomore Frida Randen (Sodertalje, Sweden) also reached double-digit kills with 10, as she hit .750 on the night.
Senior Larissa Oliveira (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) had a strong night on offense with nine kills, plus she added two blocks.
Biljana Savic (Sr., Novi Sad, Serbia) had seven kills in the win plus 16 assists.
Graduate student Giovana Soares (Sao Paulo, Brazil) dished out a match-leading 22 assists for UB.
Senior Ying Shen (Nanjing, China) led the Purple Knights' defense with nine digs, and she also had five kills for the winners.
The UB volleyball team is right back in action tomorrow, as the squad travels to Stonehill College in North Easton, Massachusetts for a non-conference contests that is slated to begin at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
