UB Volleyball Completes Western New York Sweep With 3-0 Win At Daemen
Purple Knights Now 8-1 Overall And 3-0 In ECC Play
Amherst, N.Y.-After defeating the host Roberts Wesleyan College Redhawks in four sets on Friday night, the University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team completed a Western New York sweep with a 3-0 (25-22, 28-25, 25-17) victory over the host Daemen College Wildcats on Saturday morning just outside of Buffalo. With Saturday's win, the Purple Knights are now 8-1 overall and remain unbeaten in East Coast Conference play at 3-0. Daemen is now 0-12 overall and 0-3 in the ECC.
As they have through most of the early part of 2014, UB used a balance offensive attack to pick up the win, as no player reached double-digit kills on Saturday.
Senior Biljana Savic (Novi Sad, Serbia) led Bridgeport with eight kills, and she also added 21 assists, four digs and three service aces. As team, UB notched 11 services aces versus Daemen.
Senior Larissa Oliveira (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) had six kills for the winners on Saturday, and three Purple Knights, senior Ying Shen (Nanjing, China) and Amanda Kunrath (Ivoti, Brazil) plus sophomore Frida Randen (Sodertalje, Sweden), each had five kills on the day. Kunrath also posted an impressive .500 attack percentage.
Senior libero Michele Santos (Campinas, Brazil) led all players on Saturday in digs with 13.
The Purple Knights will next look to run the winning streak to six matches and remain unbeaten in ECC play on Tuesday night when the Molloy College Lions come to Hubbell Gym for a 7:00 p.m. contest.
