Volleyball Picks Up Four-Set Win At Roberts Wesleyan
UB Now 7-1 Overall And 2-0 In East Coast Conference Play
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball took the long trip to Rochester. New York on Friday to face the host Roberts Wesleyan College Redhawks, and the Purple Knights made the journey worthwhile with a four-set, 23-25, 25-20, 25-14, 25-23 East Coast Conference victory. UB is now 7-1 overall and 2-0 in the ECC, and Bridgeport has also now won four straight matches. The Redhawks slips to 5-4 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
Bridgeport senior Biljana Savic (Novi Sad, Serbia) fell just one dig shy of a triple-double for the winners smashing a match-high 20 kills with 19 assists and nine digs.
Savic was joined in double-figure kills by junior Sarah Rosa (Itajuba, Brazil) with 17 and senior Ying Shen (Nanjing, China) with 11. Rosa notched a double-double on the night, as she contributed 11 digs, and Shen was just shy of her own double-double with nine digs.
Senior Larissa Oliveira (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) had another fine night on both sides of the net with six kills and five total blocks.
Graduate student Giovana Soares (Sao Paulo, Brazil) had double-double for the Purple Knights with 29 assists and 10 digs, plus she chipped in three service aces.
Senior libero Michele Santos (Campinas, Brazil) led the Bridgeport defense with a match-high 19 digs.
It will be a short night in Upstate New York for the UB women's volleyball team, as the squad will be right back in action at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday morning at Daemen College in Amherst, New York just outside of Buffalo.
