Women's Volleyball Cruises Past Southern Connecticut In Straight Sets
Purple Knights Now 5-1 In 2014
New Haven, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team raised its overall record to 5-1 so far in 2014 cruising to a straight sets, 25-9, 25-21, 25-11 win over the host Southern Connecticut Sate University Owls (1-5) on Saturday.
Senior Ying Shen (Nanjing, China) led the Purple Knights' offense with 13 kills and a .444 attack percentage.
Junior Sarah Rosa (Itajuba, Brazil) also reached double-digit kills with 10, plus she added nine digs and five service aces to help the UB cause.
Graduate student Giovana Soares (Sao Paulo, Brazil) notched another double-double with 14 digs and 13 assists. Giovana also had three of her team's 13 service aces on the day.
Senior Biljana Savic (Novi Sad, Serbia) had a solid all-around match with seven kills, 12 assists and seven digs for the winners
Senior Michele Santos (Campinas, Brazil) had 10 digs to help the Bridgeport defense.
Next on the docket for the UB women's volleyball team is the squad's 2014 East Conference opener on Tuesday night September 16 when the Dowling College Golden Lions come to Hubbell Gym. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
