Purple Knights Begin 2014 Home Volleyball Schedule With 3-0 Sweep Over Franklin Pierce
Team Right Back In Action On Saturday At Southern Connecticut State
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team opened its 2014 home schedule in fine style on Friday night in Hubbell Gym with a 3-0 (25-15, 25-14, 25-19) non-conference sweep of the visiting Franklin Pierce University Ravens. The Purple Knights are now 4-1 on the season, and FPU slips to 2-3.
Junior Sarah Rosa (Itajuba, Brazil) was on fire for the UB offense slamming a match-high 17 kills with a .500 attack percentage. Rosa also contributed four blocks, six digs and two service aces on the night.
Senior Biljana Savic (Novi Sad, Serbia) reached double-digit kills with 11, and she added eight digs and a solo block.
Graduate student Giovana Soares (Sao Paulo, Brazil) had a double-double for the winners notching 36 assists and 11 digs.
Senior libero Michele Santos (Campinas, Brazil) recorded a match-leading 18 digs for the Purple Knights, and classmate Ying Shen (Nanjing, China) chipped in 17 digs and six kills on the evening.
The UB women's volleyball team is right back in action on Saturday afternoon when the team takes the short trip north on I-95 to New Haven to face Southern Connecticut State University. First serve is slated for 3:30 p.m.
