Volleyball Ups Record To 3-0 With Four-Set Win Over Eckerd
Purple Knights Will Close Out Florida Trip With Match Versus # 25 Palm Beach Atlantic On Saturday Afternoon
West Palm Beach, Fla.-The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team raised its 2014 early season record to 3-0 with a scrappy four-set, 26-24, 25-20, 15-25, 25-16, victory over the Eckerd College Tritons at the Hyatt Place Sunshine Classic hosted by Palm Beach Atlantic University in West Palm Beach, Florida. With the loss, Eckerd is 2-1 so far this season.
The Purple Knights staged a pair of rallies to win the first two set of action coming back from 23-21 down in the opening stanza and running off the final eight points of set two after trailing 20-17.
Junior Sarah Rosa (Itajuba, Brazil) led the Bridgeport offense with 15 kills. Rosa also contributed five blocks and seven digs for the winners.
Senior Biljana Savic (Novi Sad, Serbia) added seven kills, six assists and 10 digs for UB in Saturday's first match.
Giovana Soares (Grad. Student, Sao Paulo, Brazil) directed the Purple Knights' offense with 28 assists, and she also chipped in four kills and four service aces.
Libero Michele Santos (Sr., Campinas, Brazil) led the Bridgeport defense with 17 digs.
The Bridgeport women's volleyball team will close out action in the 2014 Hyatt Place Sunshine Classic hosted by Palm Beach Atlantic University on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. tilt versus the host Sailfish of Palm Beach Atlantic University who are ranked number 25 in the country.
