Volleyball Picks Up Win Number 12 In A Row With 3-0 Sweep At Mercy
UB Now 18-2 Overall
Dobbs Ferry. N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team continued to roll along on Thursday evening with a straight sets, 25-17, 28-26, 25-20, East Coast Conference win over the host Mercy College Mavericks. UB has now picked up 12 wins in a row, and the Purple Knights have won 16 of their last 17 contests. Bridgeport is now 18-2 overall and 14-1 in conference play. Mercy slips to 11-20 overall and 2-14 in the ECC.
Sophomore Sarah Rosa (Itajuba, Brazil) led the Purple Knights offense with 11 kills. Junior Ying Shen (Nanjing, China) added nine kills and eight digs for the winners.
Junior Larissa Oliveira (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) added eight kills and five blocks (one solo) for the Purple Knights.
Classmate Biljana Savic (Novi Sad, Serbia) had six kills, 14 assists and nine digs for UB, and senior Fernanda Silva (Brasilia, Brazil) directed the Bridgeport offense with 17 assists.
Sophomore libero Martina Santia (Sezze, Italy) chipped in nine digs for the winners.
The Purple Knights will close out the 2013 regular season on Sunday afternoon at home versus Daemen College. First serve is set for 1:00 p.m.
