Volleyball Breaks Out The Brooms Again With 3-0 Win At Molloy
Purple Knights Have Now Won Nine Matches In A Row
Rockville Centre, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team posted another 3-0 sweep on Tuesday night as the Purple Knights picked up a 25-18, 25-17, 25-13 East Coast Conference road win over the host Molloy College Lions. UB has won its last four matches by 3-0 scored, and the team has brought out the brooms in seven of their last eight tilts. Bridgeport, now 15-2 overall and 11-1 in the ECC, has also won a total of nine matches in a row and 13 of its last 14 outings. Molloy is now 9-16 overall and 3-9 in conference play.
Sophomore Sarah Rosa (Itajuba, Brazil) spearheaded the UB offensive attack in Tuesday's win with 16 kills and a .464 attack percentage. Junior Ying Shen (Nanjing, China) also reached double-digit kills with 11, and she narrowly missed a double-double with nine digs. Shen also chipped in three service aces for the winners.
Junior Biljana Savic (Novi Sad, Serbia), this week's Sports Imports/AVCA National Division II Player of the Week, had another solid all-around match with 16 assists, six kills, six digs and two service aces.
Senior Fernanda Silva (Brasilia, Brazil) helped direct the Bridgeport offense with 19 assists, and sophomore Martina Santia (Sezze, Italy) led the Purple Knights' defense with 14 digs.
Up next for UB is a trip to NYIT on Thursday evening where the team will try and avenge one of its two losses so far in 2013. Action is set to get underway on Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
