Volleyball Raises Season Mark To 8-2 With Home Sweep Of Adelphi
Purple Knights Right Back In Action On Friday Night As UB Hosts Mercy In ECC Action
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team raised its overall season record to 8-2 with a 3-0 home sweep of the Adelphi University Panthers in a non-conference match on Thursday night. The Purple Knights picked up the victory in a rematch of one of last season's NCAA Division II East Regional semifinals by scores of 25-13, 25-15, 25-22. With the loss, the Panthers are now 10-8 on the season.
UB junior Ying Shen (Nanjing, China) had a fine all-around contest for the winners, as she led the Purple Knights in kills with 13 and digs with 12. Shen posted a .478 attack percentage on the night posting those 13 kills on 23 attacks with only two errors. As a team, Bridgeport posted a .348 attack percentage on Thursday.
Junior Biljana Savic (Novi Sad, Serbia) chipped in with nine kills, 13 assists, six digs plus four service aces.
Junior Larissa Oliveira (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) and sophomore Sarah Rosa (Itajuba, Brazil) each had seven kills for the Purple Knights.
Senior Fernanda Silva (Brasilia, Brazil) helped direct the UB offense with a team-high 19 assists.
The Bridgeport women's volleyball team is right back in action tomorrow night, Friday, October 18, when the squad returns to East Coast Conference action hosting Mercy College. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
