Down 2-0, UB Volleyball Stages Strong Comeback To Best Host LIU Post, 3-2, In ECC Action
Purple Knights Now 6-1 In Conference Play And 7-2 Overall
Brookville, N.Y.-Down two sets to none, the University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team came together to post a heart-stopping rally, as the Purple Knights topped the host LIU Post Pioneers, 3-2 (15-25, 20-25, 25-22, 25-21, 15-3), in a tough East Coast Conference contest on Long Island on Tuesday night. UB is now 7-2 overall and 6-1 in conference play. The Pioneers are now 15-5 overall and 6-2 in the ECC.
Junior Ying Shen (Nanjing, China) led four Purple Knights in double-digit kills with 16. Shen finished with a double-double, as she also contributed 14 digs.
Joining Shen with double-figure kills were sophomore Sarah Rosa (Itajuba, Brazil) with 14, and junior Larissa Oliveira (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) and Biljana Savic (Novi Sad, Serbia) each chipped in 13. Oliveira, who finished the night with a .565 attack percentage, had another monster night at the net on defense with five blocks (four solos), and Savic had a triple-double, as she added 15 digs and 13 assists to help UB grab the win.
Senior Fernanda Silva (Brasilia, Brazil) led the Purple Knights with 38 assists, and sophomore Martina Santia (Sezze, Italy) had a team-high 17 digs.
The UB volleyball team will open a three-match homestand on Thursday evening when the Purple Knights host the Adelphi University Panthers in a non-conference clash. Action is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
