UB Volleyball Rallies From Two Sets Down But Falls In Five In ECC Clash With NYIT
Bridgeport Now 6-2 Overall And 5-1 In Conference Play
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team staged a furious comeback on Thursday night at home but came up just short in an East Coast Conference battle of heavyweights with the NYIT Bears, as NYIT defeat UB in five sets, 25-15, 25-18, 23-25, 18-25, 15-7. Bridgeport is now 6-2 overall with both of the team's losses coming in five sets and 5-1 in the ECC. NYIT raises its overall record to an impressive 17-1, and the Bears are now 6-1 in conference action.
UB junior Ying Shen (Nanjing, China) led all players in the match with 19 kills, and she added a team-high 14 digs. Shen was joined in double-digit kills by sophomore Sarah Rosa (Itajuba, Brazil) with 14, and junior Biljana Savic (Novi Sad, Serbia) had 11 kills plus a team-best 30 assists plus seven digs.
Junior Larissa Oliveira (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) fell just short of double-figure kills with nine (Oliveira had an impressive .643 attack percentage on the evening), and she added four block assists. Freshman Frida Randen (Sodertalje, Sweden) led the Purple Knights at the net with five block assists.
Up next for the Purple Knights is another tough ECC test, as Bridgeport travels to LIU Post on Tuesday night. Action is schedule to begin on Long Island at 7:00 p.m.
