Women's Volleyball Sweeps Molloy To Stay Unbeaten In ECC Play
UB Now 6-1 Overall And 5-0 In Conference Action
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team used a balance offensive attack, as no player had double-digit kills but six players had at least six kills, plus strong defense at the net amassing nine total team blocks as the Purple Knights posted a 3-0 (27-25, 25-17, 25-23) home East Coast Conference win over the visiting Molloy College Lions on Tuesday night. UB is now 6-1 overall and remains unbeaten in conference play at 5-0. Molloy is now 7-9 overall and an even 2-2 in the ECC. Tuesday's victory is the Purple Knights first three-set sweep of the year.
Junior Jade Zhao (Huhhot, China) led UB with nine kills and added three block assists. Sophomore Sarah Rosa (Itajuba, Brazil) and junior Biljana Savic (Novi Sad, Serbia) each added eight kills, and junior Ying Shen (Nanjing, China) and freshman Frida Randen (Sodertalje, Sweden) each had seven kills plus junior Larissa Oliveira (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) notched six kills for the winners. Shen led the Purple Knights with 13 digs, and Rosa and Randen also each chipped three block assists. Oliveira led the Purple Knights in blocks with four (one solo).
Savic had an outstanding all-around match as she added 32 assists, 10 digs and two blocks assists to go along with her eight kills.
The UB volleyball team is next in action on Thursday evening at home when the Purple Knights host a big East Coast Conference clash versus NYIT. Action is scheduled to begin in Hubbell Gym at 7:00 p.m.
