Volleyball Completes Upstate New York Sweep With Five-Set Victory Over Daemen
Purple Knights Win 25-17, 25-15, 19-25, 14-25, 15-10
Amherst, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport volleyball team completed a successful weekend in Upstate New York with a hard-fought 3-2 (25-17, 25-15, 19-25, 14-25, 15-10) victory over the host Daemen College Wildcats on Saturday. With Saturday's win over the Wildcats and Friday's triumph at Roberts Wesleyan, the Purple Knights are now 5-1 overall and remain unbeaten in East Coast Conference play at 4-0. Daemen is now 8-7 overall and 2-4 in the ECC.
Sophomore Sarah Rosa (Itajuba, Brazil) led the UB offense with a season-high 19 kills, and she notched a double-double for the third straight match with 10 digs
Junior Ying Shen (Nanjing, China) also had a double-double for the winners as she slammed 11 kills and had a team-high 23 digs.
Junior Biljana Savic (Novi Sad, Serbia) made it three Purple Knights with double-doubles on Saturday with 37 assists and 13 digs.
Larissa Oliveira (Jr., Belo Horizonte, Brazil) had a strong game at the net with eight kills and three block assists. Classmate Jade Zhao (Huhhot, China) chipped in five kills and a team-best five block assists.
Sophomore Martina Santia (Sezze, Italy) had another solid match on defense with 15 digs.
The Purple Knights will now return home to face ECC foe Molloy College on Tuesday night. Action is set to begin in Hubbell Gym at 7:00 p.m.
