Purple Knights Remain Unbeaten In ECC Women's Volleyball Play With Four-Set Victory At Roberts Wesleyan
UB Now 3-0 In Conference Action
Rochester, N. Y.-The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team remained unbeaten in East Coast Conference play with a tough four-set win over the host Roberts Wesleyan University Redhawks on Friday night. UB won the match, 24-26, 25-23, 25-21, 25-22. The Purple Knights are now 4-1 overall and 3-0 in conference play. RWC slips to 4-7 overall and 0-4 in the ECC.
Sophomore Sarah Rosa (Itajuba, Brazil) led the UB offense with 13 kills, and she notched a double-double with 10 digs.
Junior Larissa Oliveira (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) had one of the most impressive double-doubles in recent memory for a Purple Knight, as she had 10 kills with an impressive .529 attack percentage (10 k-1 e-17 ta) and recorded 11 block assists. As a team, Bridgeport dominated the net with 16 total team blocks.
Junior Ying Shen (Nanjing, China) fell just shy of a double-double with nine kills and 13 digs.
Junior Biljana Savic (Novi Sad, Serbia) was solid in every facet of play for the winners leading the team with 37 assists, and she also chipped in eight kills and five digs.
Sophomore Martina Santia (Sezze, Italy) had a solid night on defense with 10 digs.
Junior Jade Zhao (Huhhot, China) was a force for Bridgeport in the victory with 10 total blocks (one solos and nine assists).
UB will close out its road trip to upstate New York on Saturday morning with a match at East Coast Conference newcomer Daemen College. Action is slated to begin at 11:00 a.m. Daemen is located in Amherst; just outside of Buffalo, New York.
