Purple Knights Rally From Slow Start To Post 3-2 Non-Conference Volleyball Win At Southern New Hampshire
Trailing 2-0, UB Comes Back To Remain Unblemished In 2013
Manchester, N.H.-The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team overcame a slow start to rally from two sets down to post a 13-25, 17-25, 25-23, 25-14, 15-7 non-conference win over the host Southern New Hampshire University Penmen on Friday night. UB is now 2-0 on the season, and SNHU slips to 5-5 overall in 2013.
After dropping the first sets, the Purple Knights won the potentially decisive third set, 25-23, as they scored the final three points to take the two-point win, After taking set number three, UB cruised in sets four and five to remain undefeated in the early going of the 2013 campaign.
Sophomore Sarah Rosa (Itajuba, Brazil) led the Bridgeport offense with 13 kills on the night. Rosa was joined in double-digit kills by junior Ying Shen (Nanjing, China) who had 12 kills and notched a double-double with 11 digs. Junior Michele Santos (Campinas, Brazil) led the Purple Knights in digs with 15 on the night, and classmate Larissa Oliveira (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) led the UB defense at the net with seven block assists.
Senior Fernanda Silva (Brasilia, Brazil) had a team-high 18 assists on the night, and junior Biljana Savic (Novi Sad, Serbia) also added 17 assists for the winners.
The UB volleyball team is right back in action on Saturday, as the team plays its third match in as many days when the Purple Knights take on the host Ravens of Franklin Pierce University at 5:00 p.m. in Rindge, New Hampshire. Last season, the Ravens earned a spot in the NCAA Division II East Regional.
