Duo Combines For 30 Kills For The Purple Knights
Bridgeport, Conn.-Sophomore Ying Shen (Nanjing, China) had a match-high 16 kills and classmate Biljana Savic (Novi Sad, Serbia) chipped in 14 kills to help lead the University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team to a straight sets, 25-22, 25-23, 25-15, non-conference home win over the visiting Southern Connecticut State University Owls on Tuesday night. The victory is UB's four in a row, and the Purple Knights are now 16-4 on the season, SCSU is now 19-8 overall.
Shen notched a double-double in the match, as she also had 13 digs, plus she added one solo block. Savic was just shy of a double-double recording eight digs.
Purple Knights' senior libero Taylor McBeth (Langley, B.C., Canada) was all over the court on defense registering a match-high 22 digs.
Bridgeport setter Fernanda Silva (So., Brasilia, Brazil) dished out 40 assists in the three sets for the winners.
Southern Connecticut's Jade Black led her team with a double-double of 10 kills and 20 digs.
Next up for the Purple Knights volleyball team is a key East Coast Conference match at NYIT on Thursday evening (Oct. 25). First serve on Long Island is set for 7:00 p.m. between the top two teams in the ECC standings.
