Volleyball Back In Win Column With Four-Set ECC Road Victory Over UDC
Purple Knights Now 13-4 Overall And 6-1 In Conference Action
Washington, D.C.-The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team snapped a two-match losing with a four-set East Coast Conference road win over the host University of the District of Columbia Firebirds on Saturday afternoon. UB won the match, 25-19, 15-19, 23-25, 25-16. Bridgeport is now 13-4 overall and 6-1 in conference play. UDC falls to 7-11 overall and 2-6 in the ECC.
Senior Darsel Springer (Bonair Gardens, Trinidad & Tobago) led the Purple Knights' offense with 17 kills and an impressive .438 attack percentage. Springer was joined in double-digit kills by sophomore Biljana Savic (Novi Sad, Serbia0 with 16 kills, and senior Sabrina Simas (Blumenau, Brazil) with 10 kills. Savic had another double-double, her eighth of the 2012 season, with a match-leading 21 digs.
UB setter Fernanda Silva (So., Brasilia, Brazil) had a solid all-around match notching her own double-double with 41 assists and 13 digs.
Senior libero Taylor McBeth (Langley, B.C. Canada) had an excellent day on the UB backline contributing 17 digs.
The Bridgeport volleyball team is back in action on Wednesday night at home when they host East Coast Conference rival, Dowling College. Action gets underway in Hubbell Gym at 7:00 p.m.
