Volleyball Falls In Five Sets At Queens In Regular Season Finale
UB Will Be Third Seed In ECC Championship Tournament And Face Number Two Seed NYIT On Friday Night
Flushing, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport volleyball team closed out its 2011 regular season with a five-set loss at Queens (N.Y.) College on Tuesday night. The Purple Knights were defeated by QC, 25-20, 20-25, 24-26, 25-21, 10-15. Bridgeport is now 17-6 overall and 10-4 in East Coast Conference play. Queens wraps up its season with a 9-18 overall mark and a 4-10 conference record. With the loss, Bridgeport will now be the number three seed in the East Coast Conference Championship Tournament and face the number two seed NYIT at 5:00 p.m. on Friday evening at Dowling College.
Freshman Larissa Oliveira (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) led three UB players in double-digit kills with 18 in the loss. Classmate Biljana Savic (Novi Sad, Serbia) registered a double-double on the night with 17 kills and 14 digs, as did senior Fernanda Costa (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) with 15 kills and 16 digs.
Senior setter Tamara Leite (Natal, Brazil) had 42 assists and 10 digs for the Purple Knights.
On defense, senior libero Carolina Lobato (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) led all players on the night with 22 digs, and junior Taylor McBeth (Langley, BC, Canada) chipped in 21 digs. McBeth also had 11 assists for UB.
The Purple Knights were plagued with 34 attack errors on the night.
Queens' Jovana Pavlovic led all players with 28 kills for the winners.
