Volleyball Storms Back From Two Sets Down To Win At Adelphi, 3-2
Purple Knights Prevail, 21-25, 23-25, 25-23, 25-21, 15-12
Garden City, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport volleyball team rallied from being down two sets to none to post a thrilling come-from-behind 3-2 (21-25, 23-25, 25-23, 25-21, 15-12) non-conference road win over the host Adelphi University Panthers on Wednesday night on Long Island. The Purple Knights won the final three points in the fifth and deciding set to capture the match. The victory ups UB's overall record to 10-3. Adelphi is now 11-5 overall.
Senior Fernanda Costa (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) led the Bridgeport offense with 19 kills, including the match-winner in the fifth set, and she recorded a double-double with 10 digs.
Coata was joined in double-figure kills by freshman Biljana Savic (Novi Sad, Serbia) who also had a double-double with 14 kills and 10 digs and junior Sabrina Simas (Blumenau, Brazil) crushed 11 kills.
Senior setter Tamara Leite (Natal, Brazil) orchestrated the Bridgeport offense to the tune of 43 assists and added 18 digs.
Senior Carolina Lobato (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) and junior Taylor McBeth (Langley, B.C., Canada) played stellar defense all night long for the winners, as they each recorded a team-leading 19 digs.
The Purple Knights are right back in action on Thursday night as they play the second of three consecutive nights with a home East Coast Conference contest versus Queens (N.Y.) College. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m. in Hubbell Gym.
