Volleyball Now 8-1 Overall And 3-0 In Conference Play After Four-Set Win At Mercy
UB Extends Winning Streak To Five In A Row
Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team won its fifth match in a row and raised its season record to 8-1 overall and remained unbeaten in East Coast Conference play with a 3-1 win (25-21, 25-27, 25-23, 25-14) over host Mercy College on Thursday night. The Mavericks are now 5-8 overall and 0-2 in the ECC.
Freshman Biljana Savic (Novi Sad, Serbia) led the Purple Knights' offense with 15 kills and a .400 attack percentage. Savic also added a team-high 16 digs and three block assists.
Senior Fernanda Costa (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) joined Savic in double-figure kills with 11 and had a .417 attack percentage on the evening. Fernanda recorded a double-double on the night, as she also chipped in 14 digs.
Junior Sabrina Simas (Blumenau, Brazil) played a fine match versus Mercy recording eight kills with no errors and notching six total blocks (five block assists).
Senior setter Tamara Leite (Natal, Brazil) directed the UB offense with a match-high 35 assists.
UB libero Carolina Lobato (Sr., Belo Horizonte, Brazil) contributed 12 digs on defense for the Purple Knights in the win.
Mercy's Brenna White led all players in the match with 19 kills.
UB returns to action on Tuesday evening at Dowling College. The key ECC match-up gets underway at 7:00 p.m. on Long Island.
