Purple Knights Suffer First Loss Of 2011 At New Haven
Purple Knights And Chargers Battle For Five Sets
West Haven, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport volleyball team suffered its first loss of the 2011 season as the Purple Knights (3-1) dropped a see-saw, five-set match at the University of New Haven (2-4), 19-15, 25-14, 13-25, 25-22, 13-15, in a battle of regional powers on Wednesday night. UNH rallied from being down 2-8 in the deciding set to capture the victory.
Freshman Biljana Savic (Novi Sad, Serbia) led the Bridgeport offense with 26 kills and hit .396, plus she recorded a double-double with 12 digs.
Senior setter Tamara Leite (Natal, Brazil) directed the UB offense with 49 assists, and she also had 17 digs.
Senior libero Carolina Lobato (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) led the Purple Knights' defense with a match-high 21 digs. Senior Fernanda Costa (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) also added 19 digs for UB.
The Purple Knights are now off until next Tuesday evening, September 20th when they host Stonehill. Game time in Hubbell Gym is set for 7:00 p.m.
