Purple Knights Pick Up Third Straight NCAA First Round Victory With Four-Set Win Over AIC
Oakdale, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team overcame a slow start to advance to the semifinals of the 2010 NCAA Division II Women's Volleyball East Regional with a four-set, 22-25, 25-23, 25-16, 25-15, win over the American International College Yellow Jackets. Bridgeport, the number three seed, will face the University of New Haven, the number two seed, at 5:00 p.m. on Friday in the regional semifinals.
With the win, UB is now 24-4 overall. AIC ends its season at 20-13.
Graduate student Agatha Baliddawa-Mukisa (Jinja, Uganda) and senior Terry Masava (Nairobi, Kenya) led the Purple Knights and tied for game-high on kills with 16 apiece.
Senior Ivana Kovacevic-Jurasin (Belgrade, Serbia) also reached double figures in kills with 13.
Masava and Kovacevis-Jurasin notched double-doubles on the afternoon, as Terry notched 14 digs and Ivana recorded 13 digs.
Sophomore Taylor McBeth (Langley, B.C. Canada) had an outstanding all-around match for Bridgeport leading the team with 18 digs and recording seven kills and five assists.
Junior setter Tamara Leite (Natal, Brazil) directed the Bridgeport offense with 50 assists.
