Volleyball Notches Hard-Fought Five-Set Road Win Over C.W. Post
Winning Streak Now 12 Straight Matches
Brookville, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport
volleyball team ran its winning streak to 12 matches in a row with
a hard-fought, see-saw East Coast Conference road win over the
host
C. W. Post Pioneers on Tuesday night. UB won the match by a
score of 18-25, 25-17, 25-20, 23-25, 15-12. The Purple
Knights are now 15-1 overall and 5-0 in East Coast Conference
play. The Pioneers see their overall record move to 14-8, and
they are 2-3 in ECC action.
Graduate student Ivana Kovacevic-Jurasin (Belgrade, Serbia) led the UB offense with a match-high 19 kills, and she finished with a double-double recording 11 digs. Fellow graduate student Agatha Baliddawa-Mukisa (Jinja, Uganda) had 17 kills and three blocks for the winners. Senior Terry Masava (Nairobi, Kenya) chipped in 12 kills and 11 digs for Bridgeport.
Junior setter Tamara Leite (Natal, Brazil) directed the Bridgeport offense to the tune of 51 assists.
Junior Fernanda Costa (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) played an excellent match, as she had a team-high 20 digs to lead a Bridgeport defense that amassed 90 digs and nine total blocks on the evening.
The Bridgeport volleyball team is next in action on Thursday night at home when they host a rescheduled match with the Dowling College Golden Lions. Action gets underway in Hubbell Gym at 7:45 p.m.
