Volleyball Sweeps Mercy, 25-9, 25-6, 25-6
Winning Streaks Reaches 11, As Purple Knights Remain Unbeaten In ECC Action.
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport volleyball team cruised to its 11 straight win with a straight sets, 25-9, 25-6, 25-6, East Coast Conference win over the visiting Mercy College Mavericks in Hubbell Gym on Tuesday night. With the victory, UB is now 14-1 overall and remains perfect in conference play at 4-0. Mercy now stands at 3-11 overall and 0-3 in the ECC.
The Purple Knights dominated every facet of the match amassing a season-high .603 team attack percentage, as they had 41 kills on 63 total attacks with only three errors. Bridgeport also had 15 service aces, 38 assists and four total team blocks.
Senior Terry Masava (Nairobi, Kenya) led the team with 14 kills on Tuesday, plus she added six service aces.
Graduate student Ivana Kovacevic-Jurasin (Belgrade, Serbia) had a double-double with 10 kills and a match-leading 10 digs.
Junior setter Tamara Leite (Natal, Brazil) had 32 assists on the night and also contributed three block assists and two service aces.
Bridgeport is next in action on Friday night at Hubbell Gym when the Dowling College Golden Lions come to town for a first place showdown in the early season conference race. The Golden Lions will come into Friday's match undefeated on the season and not having dropped a set in any of their 2010 contests. Friday's clash gets underway at 6:00 p.m.
