Purple Knights Now On A Six Match Winning Streak
Bridgeport, Conn.-The UB volleyball team raised it overall record to 9-1 and upped its winning streak to six matches, as the Purple Knights defeated Dominican (N.Y.) College and Southern Connecticut State University, both in straight sets, in a Saturday tri-match in Hubbell Gym.
In the day's first match, Bridgeport topped Dominican, 25-21, 25-16, 25-9. Graduate students Ivana Kovacevic-Jurasin (Belgrade, Serbia) and Agatha Baliddawa (Jinja, Uganda) led the UB offense with 14 and 13 kills respectively. Senior Terry Masava (Nairobi, Kenya) also had double kills with 11.
Junior Fernanda Costa (Rio de Janerio, Brazil) led the team with a match-high 23 digs, and classmate Tamara Leite (Natal, Brazil) directed Bridgeport's offense with 40 assists.
The Purple Knights closed out the day with a convincing, 25-11, 25-12, 25-15, win over the Owls of Southern Connecticut State. Masava and Baliddawa led the UB offense, as they each slammed 12 kills.
Bridgeport will look to runs its winning streak to seven matches on Thursday night, when the team opens East Coast Conference play at Queens (N.Y.) College.
