Volleyball Splits Two Four-Set Matches On Day One Of Bentley Invitational
Purple Knights suffer first loss of 2010 versus New Haven; rebound to defeat Holy Family.
Waltham, Mass.-The University of Bridgeport volleyball team split two matches on day one of the Bentley University Invitational on Friday, as the Purple Knights lost a tight contest to the University of New Haven, 3-1 (23-25, 25-22, 16-25, 23-25) and defeated Holy Family University in four sets, 26-16, 25-18, 16-25, 25-15. UB is now 4-1 so far in 2010.
Against UNH, three players reached double figures in kills led by senior Ivana Kovacevic-Jurasin (Belgrade, Serbia) with 14. Graduate student Agatha Baliddawa (Jinja, Uganda) and senior Terry Masava (Nairobi, Kenya), each contributed 12 kills for the Purple Knights. The loss to the Chargers was Bridgeport's first of 2010.
In the win over Holy Family, Masava led the team with 13 kills. UB played excellent defense against the Tigers recording a season-high 15 total blocks. Agatha Baliddawa led UB with eight blocks, three of which were solos.
Bridgeport closes out play in the Bentley Invitational with two matches on Saturday. The Purple Knights will take on Georgian Court and Stonehill.
