Swim Teams Open Weekend Action At BU Invitational
Events Continue In Beantown Through Sunday
Boston, Mass.-The University of Bridgeport swimming teams opened the three-day Boston University Invitational on Friday night with several strong performances. The Purple Knights, who are the only non-Division I team in the field, sit in fourth place for the men and position number eight for the women.
On the men's side, four UB swimmers earned spots in the 500 Free final and all improved their times from the prelims including Erik Hren (Jr., Maribor, Slovenia) taking second place in an NCAA B cut time of 4:27.0.
In the men's 200 IM, graduate student Nick Semenov (Kiev, Urkraine) dropped nearly two seconds of his time turning in a 1:53.9.
Junior Juan Patino (Cali, Columbia) just missed an NCAA B cut with an outstanding early season time of 20.85.
On the women's side, senior, captain Nina Stegu (Ljublijana, Slovenia) made an NCAA B cut with a time of 23.96.
Also, both the men's and women's 200 Free and 400 Medley relays had excellent nights.
Action at the BU Invitational continues through Sunday.
