Purple Knights Open Action At 2018 ECAC Open Swimming Championships

Piscataway, N.J.-The University of Bridgeport men's and women's swimming teams opened action at the 2018 ECAC Open Championship, a meet featuring Division I, II and III institutions, on Friday night taking place at the Sonny Werblin Recreation Center on the campus of Rutgers University in Piscataway, New Jersey and the UB men are tied for seventh place out of 20 teams while UB women are sixteenth out of 23 squads in the water after day one of the three-day meet.

As they have all season on the women's side, senior Annagrazia Bonsanti (Caracas, Venezuela) and junior Nina Stegu (Ljublijana, Slovenia) starred for the women's team, as Bonsanti took sixth place in the 500 Yard Freestyle in a time of 4:55.99 and Stegu grabbed seventh in the 50 Yard Free in a time of 27.59.

The Bridgeport men had a fine night in relay events taking sixth in the 200 Freestyle Relay (1:25.40) and fifth in the 400 Yard Medley (3:20.32).

Action continues at the ECAC Open Championships through Sunday.
