UB's Erik Hren And Annagrazia Bonsanti Shine On Opening Night Of Metro Conference Swimming Championships
Event Continues Through Sunday Night
Piscataway, N.J.-The dynamic University of Bridgeport men's and women's swimming long distance duo of sophomore Erik Hren (Maribor, Slovenia) and senior Annagrazia Bonsanti (Caracas, Venezuela) continued to dominate their events on Friday night to help the Purple Knights get off to a good start on day of the 2018 Metropolitan Conference Championship Meet taking place at the Sonny Werblin Recreation Center on the campus of Rutgers University in Piscataway, New Jersey.
Both swimmers won their respective 500 Yard Freestyle events, as Hren captured the men's event in a time of 4:31.50, and Bonsanti took first for the women in a time of 4:56.91.
UB's Klavio Meca (Jr., Triana, Albania) finished third behind Hren in a time of 4:32.78 on the men's side.
The Bridgeport men also took first place in the 400 Yard Medley Relay on Friday, as the team of Hren, as the anchor, Wilmar Du Plessis (Jr., Bloemfontein, South Africa), Kosta Mitrovic (Fr., Belgrade, Serbia) and Mihovil Bakovic (So, Split, Croatia) topped the podium in a time of 3:21.31.
Du Plessis also turned in a fine swim in the men's 50 Yard Freestyle taking sixth place in a time of 20.98.
The men's 200 Yard Free Relay team grabbed fourth place in Friday night turning in a time of 1:23.51.
On the women's side, junior Nina Stegu (Ljublijana, Slovenia ) took second place in the 50 Yard Freestyle (23.60) and classmate Clara Mico Gonzalez (Madrid, Spain) had a good night on Friday taking fourth in the 200 Yard IM in a time of 2:10.77.
As a team, the UB men sit in fifth place out of 17 teams with 265.50 points after day one of the Metro Championships, and the Bridgeport women are number eight out of 16 teams with 106 points.
Action continues at the 2018 Metropolitan Conference Championship Meet through Sunday night.
