Swimmers Wrap Up Busy Weekend Of Action At Connecticut College
After Three Dual Meets In Three Days, Teams Will Be Back In The Water Next Saturday At The UConn Husky Invitational
New London, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's and men's swimming teams closed out a busy weekend of three dual meets in three different locations on Sunday in New London, Connecticut against the host Camels of Connecticut College. UB fell in both meets on Sunday, as the Camels won the women's meet, 191-50, and took the men's competition by a score of 163-95.
Senior Annagrazia Bonsanti (Caracas, Venezuela) and junior Nina Stegu (Ljublijana, Slovenia) were dual event winners for the UB women on Sunday, as Bonsanti won the long distance 1000 Yard Freestyle (10:30.11) and the 500 Yard Free (5:12.40), while Stegu captured the 100 and 200 Yard Freestyles in time of 53.08 and 1:55.02.
For the Bridgeport men, sophomore Erik Hren (Maribor, Slovenia) and junior Wilmar Du Plessis (Bloemfontein, South Africa) each took home a pair of first places, as Hren won the 1000 Yard Freestyle (9:44.59) and the 500 Yard Free (4:42.51), and DuPlessis captured first place in the 100 Yard Backstroke (50.96) and the 200 Yard Back (1:57.48).
Freshman Jose Javato (Caceres, Spain) also topped the podium for the Bridgeport men on Sunday winning the 200 Yard Butterfly (1:57.00).
Up next, the Purple Knights men's and women's swimming teams will compete in next Saturday's UConn Husky Invitational.
