Women's Swimming Cruises Past Assumption, 161-101, In Dual Meet Action
Purple Knights Win 12 Of 14 Events On Saturday
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's swimming team closed out a busy weekend of action with its final home meet of the 2016-17 season on Saturday afternoon in the Wheeler Recreation Center, and the Purple Knights cruised to a 161-101 dual meet win over the visiting Assumption College Greyhounds. As a team, UB took first place in 12 of the 14 events that took place on Saturday.
Newcomer, sophomore Oksana Marchuk (Mlyniv, Ukraine) continued to impress in her early going of her Bridgeport career winning three events versus Assumption, taking first place in the 200 Butterfly (2:21.90), the 100 Fly (1:06.97) and the 200 IM (2:27.87).
Junior Annagrazia Bonsanti (Caracas, Venezuela) took first place in the 800 Freestyle (9:15.89) and the 400 Free (4:33.37), and graduate student Jera Majeric (Prevalje, Slovenia) also won two events taking first in the 100 Backstroke (1:06.38) and the 200 Back (2:25.58).
Also picking up individual event wins for the UB women on Saturday were sophomore Nina Stegu (Ljublijana, Slovenia) in the 200 Freestyle (2:11.05), junior Rebeka Repman (Sombor, Serbia) in the 50 Free (20.81) and senior Yekaterina Gakhokidze (Almaty, Kazakhstan) in the 100 Free (59.97).
Up next, both the UB women's and men's swimming teams will travel to New York City to compete in next weekend's NYU Invitational.
