UB Swimmers Shine In Dual Meet At Rowan
Women Defeat Hosts, 138-122 And Three Bridgeport Men Win Two Events Each
Glassboro, N.J.-The University of Bridgeport men's and women's swimming teams were in action for the second time this season at Rowan University in New Jersey, and the UB women topped the host Profs, 138-122; while the Bridgeport men fell to the hosts, 146-112.
On the women's side, junior Annagrazia Bonsanti (Caracas, Venezuela) won three events taking first place in the 1000 yard Freestyle (10:40.55), the 200 yard Freestyle (1:58.22) and the 400 yard IM (4:47.98).
Newcomer, graduate student Jera Majeric (Prevalje, Slovenia) was a double winner on Saturday topping the standings in the 100 yard Backstroke (59.82) and the 500 yard Freestyle (5:13.89).
Other first place finishes turned in by UB women came from senior Tatiana Shepel (Moscow, Russia) in the 50 yard Freestyle (24.83), junior Rebeka Repman (Sombor, Serbia) in the 100 yard Freestyle (56.17) and senior Yekaterina Gakhokidze (Almaty, Kazakhstan) in the 100 yard Butterfly (1:00.42).
The UB women's 400 Free Relay team also took first place on Saturday in a time of (3:38.80).
For the Bridgeport men, three swimmers won a pair events, as senior Ivan Sangines (Barcelona, Spain) won the 1000 yard Freestyle (9:46.95) and the 500 yard Free (4:53.54), classmate Didac Matsuyama (Barcelona, Spain) took first in the 200 yard Freestyle (1:43.72) and the 100 yard Butterfly (51.96) and sophomore Wilmar Du Plessis (Bloemfontein, South Africa) topped the field in the 200 yard (1:43.72) and 100 yard Freestyles (51.96).
Senior Alberto Alemany (Barcelona, Spain) grabbed first place in the 400 yard IM (4:18.21).
The Bridgeport men's and women's swimming teams are back in action this Friday, October 28 at the College of St. Rose.
