Swim Teams Open 2016-17 Seasons With Split Of Tri-Meet At UConn With Keene State
Junior Annagrazia Bonsanti Set UB School Record In Women's 1000 Free
Storrs, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's and men's swimming teams opened their 2015-16 seasons on Saturday afternoon with a tri-meet at the University of Connecticut along with Keene State University. The UB women fell to the host Huskies, 160.00-110.00 and topped Keene State, 110.0-98. The Bridgeport men also fell to UConn, 150.50-117.50 and defeated Keene State, 117.50-91.0.
Highlighting the women's season opener was junior Annagrazia Bonsanti (Caracas, Venezuela) setting a school record iwith her first place finish in the 1000 yard freestyle in a time of 10:08.53. Bonasanti was a double winner on Saturday also taking first place in the 500 Free in a time of 5:02.77.
Other first place finishes turned in by UB women came from senior Tatiana Shepel (Moscow, Russia) in the 50 yard Freestyle (24.59), sophomore Clara Mico Gonzalez (Madrid, Spain) in the 200 yard Butterfly (1:00.10) and the 400 yard Free Relay team in a time of 3:35.42.
For the Bridgeport men, sophomore Klavio Meca (Triana, Albania) took first in the 1000 yard freestyle in a time of 9:35.47. Also taking top honors in men's races for the Purple Knights were senior Ivan Sangines (Barcelona, Spain) taking first in the 200 yard freestyle (1:41.57), classmate Didac Matsuyama (Barcelona, Spain) winning the 100 yard Butterfly (50.38) and 400 yard Free Relay team winning in a time of 3:08.42
Both teams are back in action at Rowan University next Saturday, October 22 at 2:00 p.m.
