Swim Teams Sink St. Peter's
Women Win, 114-82 And Men Top Peacocks, 121.5-75.5
Jersey City, N.J.-The University of Bridgeport men's and women's swimming team took a trip down I-95 to Jersey City, New Jersey to face the St. Peter's Peacocks on Saturday afternoon, and the Purple Knights proved to be unwelcome guests, as UB swept the meet winning the men's side, 121.5-75.5 and capturing the women's side, 114-82.
On the men's side, two Purple Knights won multiple individual events, as senior Ruben Gimenez (Burgos, Spain) won the 50 Free (21.01) and the 100 Free (56.91) and junior Ivan Sangines (Barcelona, Spain) captured the 1000 Free (9:37.91) and the 500 Free (4:42.78(.
For the UB women, newcomer Annagrazia Bonsanti won the 1000 Free (10:29.64) and the 500 Free (5:10.80), plus junior Tatiana Shepel (Moscow, Russia) topped the field in the 500 Free (24.39) and the 100 Free (53.39).
Up next for the Bridgeport swimming teams is a trip to New York City to compete in the NYU Invitational on Friday, February 6 and Saturday, February 7.
