Swim Teams Sink St. Rose In 2013-14 Home Opener
Women Top Golden Knights, 132-121 And Men Post 141-107 Victory
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport men's and women's swimming teams opened their 2013-14 home schedules in fine style on Saturday afternoon in UB's Wheeler Recreation Center, as both squads posted wins over the visiting Golden Knights of the College of St. Rose. The UB men topped St. Rose, 141-107, and the women picked up a 132-121 victory. The Bridgeport men posted the top times in every event on Saturday, and the women had the top time in all but two events.
Highlighting the day for the Bridgeport men's team was the performance of the 400 Medley Relay Team of Oscar Pereiro, Ruben Gimenez, Didac Matsuyama, and Ivan Capan who won the event in a time of 3:44.62 which is the current top time in NCAA Division II men's swimming.
Gimenez won two events on the day capturing the 100 Freestyle (51.74) and the 100 Breaststroke (1:04.56).
Other double winners for the UB were Ivan Sangines in the 1500 Freestyle (16:44.15) and the 400 Freestyle (4:10.35), and Matheus Lima in the 100 Backstroke (59.13) and the 200 Backstroke (2:08.47).
On the women's side, Elena Shchekleina took first in the 200 Butterfly (2:33.51) and the 100 Freestyle (1:01.05, and she had the top time in the 100 Butterfly (1:06.90).
Other female double winners on Saturday were Adeline Martin in the 100 Breaststroke (1:13.77) and the 200 Breaststroke (2:39.21), and she also had the top time in the 200 IM, Alina Sotnikova in the 50 Freestyle (28.79) and the 200 Freestyle (2:16.47) plus Jaimy Lee Taskin in the 100 Backstroke (1:06.68) and the 200 Backstroke (2:25.79).
Both Bridgeport swimming teams will be back in the water on Saturday, November 9 at 11:00 a.m. for the annual Purple and White Intersquad Meet.
