Swim Teams Wrap Up 2012-13 Dual Meet Schedule At St. Peter's
Men Defeat SPC, 117-85; Women Fall 105-95 Due To DQ In Final Relay
Jersey City, N.J.-The University of Bridgeport swimming teams wrapped up the dual meet portion of the 2012-13 season at St. Peter's College on Saturday afternoon. The UB men posted a 117-85 victory over SPC; while the women suffered a tough 105-95 loss to the host Peahens as their win in the final relay of the meet by five seconds was disqualified due to a false start.
Outstanding performances on the men's side versus St. Peter's were turned in by graduate student Krzysztof Wilk (Krakow Poland) who was a double individual event winner taking first place in the 1,000-Yard Freestyle (10:00.83) and the 100-yard Free (47.25).
Junior Oscar Pereiro (Arzua, Spain) won the 100-Yark Backstroke in a time of 50.51, and he was followed in second place by teammate Matheus Lima (So., Santos, Brazil) with a time of 51.66. Pereiro also took first in the 50-Yard Freestyle (21.26).
For the Bridgeport women, freshman Jaimy Lee Taskin (Noordwijkerhout, Holland) was first in the 400-Yard IM (4:45.31), sophomore Alina Sotnikova (Riga, Latvia) took first in the 100-Yard Backstroke and sophomore Ilka Oberle (Schwanau, Germany) set up a potential win for the Purple Knights by taking first in the 100-Yard Breaststroke in a time of 1:09.90 just before the DQ in the final relay of the day.
In the women's 100-Yard Freestyle, UB went 1-2 as senior Anna Krasnowska (Kedzierzyn-Kozie, Poland) was first (54.30) and sophomore Alja Tavcar (Ljublijana, Slovenia) was second (54.65).
The Bridgeport swimming teams will now turn their attention to the 2013 Metropolitan Conference Championships which will be held at Rutgers University from February 15-17.
