Swim Teams Open 2012 Portion Of Schedule With Eight Event Wins At Daytona Beach College Invitational
UB Back In Action At Florida Southern On Saturday
Daytona Beach, Fla.-The University of Bridgeport swimming teams got the 2012 portion of this season's schedule off to a fast start on Wednesday afternoon as they Purple Knights won eight events at the Daytona Beach College Invitational Meet.
On the women's side, sophomore Maria Trubitsyna (Moscow, Russia) won the 200-yard Freestyle (1:53.92) and the 200-yard Butterfly (2:11.68). Classmate Ilka Oberle (Schwanau, Germany) took the top spot in the 100-yard Breaststroke (1:10.03).
For the Bridgeport men, sophomore Ruben Gimenez (Burgos, Spain) won two events taking first in the 100-yard Freestyle (46.58) and the 100-yard Breaststroke (58.32).
Other individual winners for the UB were freshman Vlad Paskas (Zrenjanin, Serbia) in the 200-yard Freestyle (1:43.75), and sophomore Oscar Pereiro (Arzua, Spain) in the 100-yard Backstroke (52.30).
The Purple Knight men also took first place in the 200-yard Medley Relay (Oscar Pereiro, Ruben Gimenez, Ilkka Hanhineva, Krzysztof Wilk) with a time of 1:33.93.
The Bridgeport swimming teams are back in action on Saturday afternoon as they wrap up their Semester Break Trip to Florida with a meet at Florida Southern in Lakeland.
