Swim Teams Excel At Saturday's USMMA Invitational
Purple Knights Take 16 Out Of 28 First Places On The Day
Kings Point, N.Y. - University of Bridgeport Swimming team had strong performances with multiple wins as Purple Knights competed in the USMMA Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
Bridgeport swimmers took 16 first place finishes of the day out of the 28 total events.
For the UB women, the relay team of Patrycja Zera (Zabki, Poland), Ilka Oberle (Schwanau,Germany), Maria Trubitsyna (Moscow, Russia) and Anna Krasnowska (Kedzierzyn-Kozi, Poland) started off the meet with a first place performance in the 200 Medley Relay, winning with a time of 1:55.27.
Freshman Trubitsyna dominated the 200 Fly and the 200 Free with winning times of 2.14.69 and respectively 1:57.18. Krasnowska added a first place finish in the 50 Freestyle (25.40). Oberle also notched a first place finish in the 200 Breaststroke (2:31.89).
The women's team wrapped up the day with a first place performance in the 400 Freestyle Relay (3:44.07).
On the men's side, the 200 Medly Relay team of Oscar Pereiro ( Arzua , Spain), Krzysztof Wilik (Krakow, Poland), Ilkka Hanhieva ( Pietarsaari, Finland) and Vlad Paskas (Zrenjanin, Serbia) finished in first with a time of 1:35.42. The same four dominated the invitational relayswith a 400 Free Relay winning time of 3:08.92 and also placed first and second in their individual events.
Freshman Paskas captured first in the 500 Free ( 4:41.77) and 100 Free (47.64). His 500 Free is also a NCAA " B " cut. Hanhineva won his "B" cut in the 200 Fly ( 1:52.77)and out touched his teammate Pereiro, as the two battled for first and second in the 100 Fly. Their times were 50.96 and 51.06. Pereiro captured first in the 200 IM ( 1:58.43) and senior Wilik won the 100 Breaststroke (1:01.31) and the 200 Freestyle ( 1:44.81).
Junior Said Mosquera (Sunrise, Florida) helped UB with a second place in the 100 Back (56.99).
Next, the Purple Knights travel to New Jersey on December 2nd for the TCNJ Invitational.
