University of Bridgeport Ranked Number 22 In The Nation In First NCAA Division II Learfield Sports Directors' Cup Standings Of Winter 2011
Swim Teams Help Purple Knights Move Up From Number 25 In The Fall
Cleveland, Ohio-The University of Bridgeport checks in at number 22 in the country in the first Winter Division II Learfield Sports Directors' Cup standings of the 2011 academic year. The outstanding performance by the UB swimming teams at last week's National Championship Meet gave Bridgeport a total of 124.0 points for the first set of winter standings. Those 124.0 points were combined with the Purple Knights total of 114.0 from the final fall standings to give Bridgeport a total score of 238.0 points. After the fall sports standings, UB ranked 25th n the nation.
Grand Valley State University is number one in the Division II Learfield Sports Directors' Cup standings with a total of 703 points.
Bridgeport tops all East Coast Conference institutions in the Division II Learfield Sports Directors' Cup. Dowling College is number two at number 40 in the country with 166.0 points.
Another set of Winter Division II Learfield Sports Directors' Cup standings will be released on March 31, 2011.
The Learfield Sports Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 14 sports -- seven women's and seven men's.
