Bridgeport, Conn.-The visiting American International College Yellow Jackets scored two goals in the first 11:39 of action, but the University of Bridgeport women's soccer team roared back to score four unanswered markers to grab a 4-2 non-conference win on Tuesday night at Knights Field. The Purple Knights, who are unbeaten in their last six matches, are now 5-4-1 on the season. AIC slips to 4-5-1 overall.
Trailing 2-0, UB senior Maegen Doyle (Harwich, England) got her team on the board with a long distance strike at the 39:57 mark to give her a team-high 14 goals so far in 2019.
Bridgeport knotted the match at 2-2 just under 10 minutes into the second half when Marieke Kramer (Grad. Student/Megchelen, Netherlands) blistered a shot from the top of the box, her third goal of the season, past AIC keeper Olivia Sousa.
Sophomore Annie Bjork (Malmo, Sweden) headed home the game-winning goal on Tuesday when she netted her first score of the season off a corner kick from Doyle at the back post.
Senior Nara DaCosta (Pancas, Brazil) added an insurance tally for UB when she scored her fourth goal of 2019 off a cross from Kramer with 11:01 remain in the contest.
On the night, the Purple Knights outshot the Yellow Jackets, 18-10.
Bridgeport freshman goalkeeper Helena Dahlstrom (Stockholm, Sweden) earned her third win of the season, as she made four saves.
Up next, the UB women's soccer team returns to East Coast Conference play on Saturday afternoon with a 4:00 p.m. home match against New York Tech.
