UB's Maegen Doyle Named NCAA Division II Honda Award Finalist For Soccer
She Is One A Finalist For The Prestigious DII Honda Athlete of the Year To Be Presented In June
Bridgeport, Conn.-Maegen Doyle, a junior forward from the University of Bridgeport, was named the DII Honda Athlete of the Year finalist for Soccer as announced today by Executive Director Chris Voelz of THE Collegiate Women Sports Awards (CWSA) presented by Honda.
Doyle is now designated one of 11 finalists for the prestigious DII Honda Athlete of the Year. This will be voted on at the end of the academic year by national balloting among 1,000 NCAA member schools as part of THE CWSA program, now in its 43rd year.
"To be a finalist for the Honda Division II Athlete of the Year representing women's soccer is a real honor, said Doyle. I like to thank all my coaches, teammates and the administration at the University of Bridgeport for all their help and support during this magical year both on the field and off. Again, I'm so grateful to be considered for the prestigious honor with so many top-notch female student-athletes."
Doyle, hailing from Harwich, England, was recently named the 2018 United Soccer Coaches (USC) NCAA DII National Player of the Year after leading her team to the 2018 DII National Championship. The 2018 East Coast Conference (ECC) Offensive Player of the Year, she has been recognized with first-team All-America honors by USC and the Division II Conference Commissioner's Association (D2CCA); plus, Doyle was named D2CAA East Region Player of the Year and the DII NCAA Championship Most Outstanding Offensive Player.
This season, she set the University of Bridgeport single season school record for goals with 28 and points with 59. Those 28 goals placed her number two in the country in total goals scored, and she finished the season tied for number one in the nation in game-winning goals with 13. From September 15 through November 29, Doyle scored goals in a total of 18 consecutive matches in which she played.
Off the field, her academic success was recognized when she was named to the national CoSIDA Academic All-America first-team and the USC DII Women's Scholar All-America first-team.

All Honda Sports nominees from DII and DIII become a finalist for the prestigious 2018 Honda Athlete of the Year in their respective divisions, presented in a live telecast on CBS Sports on June 24, 2019, in downtown Los Angeles. The Honda Sports nominees are recognized in 11 DII and DIII NCAA-sanctioned sports; cross country, basketball, field hockey, golf, lacrosse, soccer, softball, swimming & diving, tennis, volleyball, and track & field.
THE Collegiate Women Sports Awards has honored the nation's top NCAA women athletes for 43 years, recognizing superior athletic skills, leadership, academic excellence and eagerness to participate in community service.
