Top-Seeded Purple Knights Advance To 2018 ECC Women's Soccer Championship Final With 4-0 Win Over Daemen
UB Wins In Dominating Fashion Outshooting The Wildcats, 36-1
Bridgeport, Conn.-The top-seeded University of Bridgeport women's soccer team moved onto the finals of the 2018 East Coast Conference Women's Soccer Championship Tournament on Tuesday afternoon with a dominating 4-0 victory over the visiting, fourth-seeded Daemen College Wildcats. The Purple Knights will now host number three-seed LIU Post for the 2018 ECC Women's Soccer title and an automatic berth in this season's NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Championship on Saturday evening at Knights Field. Game time is slated for 6:00 p.m. LIU Post defeated Mercy College, 2-1, in double overtime on Tuesday to advance to the final. With the win, UB is now 13-4-1 overall. The Wildcats close out their season at 8-8-1.
The host squad dominated play from start to finish on Tuesday outshooting the visitors by a whopping 36-1 margin.
Bridgeport got a pair of goals and an assist from junior Maegen Doyle (Harwich, England) in the win to give her 21 goals and 45 points so far in 2018.
The Purple Knights' other goals came from freshman Anisha Hill (Woking, England) and sophomore Sara Berglund (Borlange, Sweden). Hill now has seven goals so far in 2018, and Berglund has found the back of the net twice.
UB's Marieke Kramer (Sr., Megchelen, Netherlands) played a fine match on Tuesday dishing out a pair of assists, and graduate student Carolina Rico (N. Bergen, N.J.) had her team's other helper.
Bridgeport senior goalkeeper Jennifer Wendelius (Sr., Lidingo, Sweden) made one save to pick up her eighth shutout of the season and clean sheet number 29 of her career.
Daemen goalkeeper, sophomore Maddie Flores played a fine match making a season-high 16 saves under constant pressure.
