Women's Soccer Runs Winning Streak To Seven With 3-1 Senior Day Victory Over Queens (N.Y.) College
Victory Also Locks Up At Least One ECC Championship Tournament Match For The Purple Knights
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's soccer team notched its seventh straight victory and remained unbeaten in its last nine outings with a 3-1 Senior Day win over Queens (N.Y.) College at Knights Field on Saturday. The Purple Knights are now 11-3-1 overall and 7-1-0 in the East Coast Conference. QC slips to 2-9-3 overall and 1-5-2 in conference play.
Saturday's victory also guarantees the Purple Knights will open the 2018 ECC Championship Tournament with a home match on Tuesday, October 30 as one of the conference's top two seeds in postseason.
Three different Purple Knights found the back of the net on Saturday, as freshman Anisha Hill (Woking, England) got UB on the board quickly just 6:50 into play when she notched her six goal of 2018 putting home a rebound off a shot by junior Nara DaCosta (Pancas, Brazil).
The match went into halftime with that 1-0 lead for UB, and Bridgeport would put the match away with two goals in a span of less than 30 in the 56th minute of play when junior Maegen Doyle (Harwich, England) scored her team-high seventeenth goal of the season off an assist from sophomore Sara Berglund (Borlange, Sweden), and then Doyle assisted and her team's final goal from sophomore Andrea Basilicato (Guilford, Conn.).
The visitors would score their only goal of the day with just over 14 minutes to play.
Doyle has been a scoring machine scoring 13 goals in her last seven matches, plus she has scored at least one tally in her last nine matches played.
Up next, the UB women's soccer team steps out of conference play on Wednesday night and travels to Southern New Hampshire University for a big regional match at 7:00 p.m.
