Dynamic Duo Of Doyle And DaCosta Help Propel UB Women's Soccer To 3-2 Road Win Over NYIT
Magen Doyle Scores Two Goals And Nara DaCosta Nets The Tally That Ties The Contest
Old Westbury, N.Y.-The dynamic offensive duo of juniors Maegen Doyle (Harwich, England) and Nara DaCosta (Pancas, Brazil) helped power the University of Bridgeport women's soccer team to a key, 3-2, East Coast Conference road victory over the host New York Institute of Technology Bears on Saturday afternoon on Long Island. With the win, UB is now 9-3-1 overall and 5-1-0 in the ECC. The Purple Knights extend their winning streak to five with Saturday's triumph, and the team is also unbeaten in their last seven outings. NYIT is now 8-4-1 overall and 4-2-1 in conference play.
On Saturday, Doyle opened the scoring when she converted a penalty kick after she drew a foul in the box just 6:11 into play.
NYIT rallied back to grab a 2-1 lead at halftime on two goals by Casey Luongo, the second tally coming on a spectacular long shot just eight seconds before intermission.
The Purple Knights came out determined after the halftime break dominating much of the play as they finished the day with a 24-15 advantage in shots.
UB tied the game in the 58th minute when DaCosta put home her tenth goal of 2018, when she poked home a cross from Elin Eklund (Jr., Gothenburg, Sweden).
Doyle would then score the match-winner off a free kick with just over 20 minutes to play when her shot tipped off the diving NYIT's keeper hands and just crossed the goal line before DaCosta was there to knock the ball in case there was any doubt. Maegen now has scored 15 goals so far this season.
Bridgeport senior goalkeeper Jennifer Wendelius (Lidingo, Sweden) made eight saves for the winners on Saturday.
Up next, the UB women's soccer team will play their final two home matches of the regular season beginning on Wednesday evening with a 6:00 p.m. East Coast Conference contest against Molloy College at Knights Field.
