Allendale, Mich.-The Ashland University (Ohio) Eagles scored a goal midway through the first and early in the second half on their way to a 2-0 neutral site women's soccer win of the Univers9ity of Bridgeport Purple Knights in a match that took place on the campus of Grand Valley State University. Ashland is now 3-0-1 on the young 2018 season, and UB is now 2-1-0, as Bridgeport suffered its first loss of the year.
The Eagles' goals came in the 27th and 48th minutes of action. Ashland outshot the Purple Knights by a slim, 12-11, margin on the afternoon.
Sophomore Amanda Ebbesson (Solana, Sweden) led Bridgeport with four shots on the afternoon, and junior Maegan Doyle (Harwich, England) had three shots, one of which was on frame.
UB senior goalkeeper Jennifer Wendelius (Lidingo, Sweden) made five saves including stopping a second half penalty kick.
Up next, the UB women's soccer team will face national power, Grand Valley State University, on the Lakers' home field at 12 noon on Sunday.
