Brookville, N.Y.-The top-seeded and host LIU Post Pioneers, who are ranked number 13 in the nation in NCAA Division II women's soccer, got a goal from Andrea Huntzinger just 1:51 into the match, as LIUP defeated the visiting and number four-seeded University of Bridgeport Purple Knights, 1-0, on Wednesday afternoon on Long Island. The Pioneers move on the ECC Women's Soccer Championship final on Saturday versus Mercy College, who defeated Molloy by a 1-0 score also on Wednesday afternoon, with a 15-2-1 record. UB closes out its 2017 season with an 8-8-2 overall record.
Wednesday's victory also avenges a 1-0 loss that Bridgeport handed LIU Post just four days ago in the Park City.
The Pioneers were in attack mode all match long outshooting the Purple Knights, 20-5 and holding a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Senior Ariana Weingrad (Hicksville, N.Y.) and sophomore Maegen Doyle (Harwich, England) each had two shots for Bridgeport on the day, and they each also put one of those shots on goal.
Junior goalkeeper Jennifer Wendelius (Lidingo, Sweden) made six saves in net for the visitors on the afternoon.
