Rockville Centre, N.Y.-A penalty kick goal 4:43 into overtime by Molloy's Dana Poetzsch, her second tally of the afternoon, gave the host Molloy College Lions a 2-1 East Coast Conference women's soccer victory over the visiting University of Bridgeport Purple Knights on Saturday on Long Island. With the win, Molloy is now 6-6-2 overall and 4-3-0 in conference play. UB is now 7-7-2 overall and 3-3-1 in the ECC.
The Purple Knights got on the board first on Saturday, as after a scoreless first half, sophomore Maegen Doyle (Harwich, England) banged home a free kick from 25 yards out in the 67th minute of action. Doyle leads Bridgeport with 11 goals so far in 2017.
Molloy would tie the contest nine minutes later when Poetzsch scored her first goal of the day, and the match would head into overtime deadlocked at 1-1 later to be finished off by Dana's second goal of the day.
In the game, Bridgeport outshot Molloy, 16-9, and finished with a 10-4 advantage in corner kicks.
Up next, the UB women's soccer team will wrap up the 2017 regular season next Saturday evening, October 28 when they host LIU Post in a Senior Night tilt. Game time is set for 6:00 p.m.
