Flushing, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport women's soccer played to a 2-2 double overtime tie at Queens (N.Y.) College in an East Coast Conference match played on Saturday afternoon in New York City. UB is now 2-4-2 overall and 1-0-1 in ECC action. QC is now 1-5-2 overall and 0-1-1 in conference play.
Freshman Sara Berglund (Borlange, Sweden) got the visiting Purple Knights on the board quickly when she scored just 3:09 into the contest off an assist from classmate Amanda Ebbesson (Solna, Sweden).
The match stayed 1-0 in favor of UB until the hosts tied things at 1-1 with a goal in the second half at the 59:31 mark.
Bridgeport would retake the lead at 2-1 just over two minutes later when Malin Thor (Fr., Kalmar, Sweden) found the back of the net off an assist from Synnove Skaasheim (Fr., Balestrand, Norway), but the host Knights tied the game once again at 2-2 with a score with 13:34 remaining in regulation.
The Purple Knights had a chance to win the game in the first overtime period, but a header by freshman Andrea Basilicato (Guilford, Conn) banged off the crossbar.
UB goalkeeper Jennifer Wendelius (Lidingo, Sweden) made seven saves on the afternoon.
Up next, the UB women's soccer team returns to Knights Field for a non-conference tilt against Wilmington (Del.) University. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
