Springfield, Mass.-The University of Bridgeport women's soccer team stumbled in its 2017 season opener on Friday afternoon, as the Penmen of Southern New Hampshire University (1-0) scored one goal late in the first half and added some insurance early in the second half to notch 2-0 win over the Purple Knights in a match played at the American International College Classic in Springfield, Massachusetts.
SNHU opened the scoring with a tally just 4:21 before halftime, and then the Penmen scored again 3:17 into the second half.
UB was outshot 13-7 on the day.
Junior goalkeeper Jennifer Wendelius (Lidingo, Sweden) made eight saves in her 2017 debut.
Up next, the UB women's soccer team will look to record its first win of the new season on Sunday at 5:00 p.m. when the Purple Knights close out action in the AIC Women's Soccer Classic when they face the host Yellow Jackets.
